EIF2AK3 (PERK)는 eIF2-alpha의 Ser51을 인산화하는 4가지 키나아제 중 하나로, 다양한 환경적 스트레스에 반응하여 단백질 합성을 감소시킵니다.
EIF2AK3의 신호전달은 ER 내 잘못 접힌 단백질에 의해 시작되며, 이 유전자의 결함은 Wolcott-Rallison 증후군(WRS)의 원인입니다.
WRS는 신생아기 또는 유아기에 발병하는 인슐린 의존성 당뇨병과 함께, 성장 지연, 골형성 장애, 간·신장 기능 이상, 정신 지체 및 심혈관 이상 등의 다기관 증상을 특징으로 하는 희귀 상염색체 열성 질환입니다.
