Target Information

Huntingtin disease, a neurodegenerative disorder, is caused by the expansion of a polymorphic glutamine tract in huntingtin. The Huntingtin Interacting Protein 1 (HIP-1) is a proapoptotic, cargo-specific adaptor protein possibly involved in the pathogenesis of Huntingtin disease. HIP-1 also plays a role in clathrin coat recruitment to lipid membranes and may contribute to tumorigenesis by supporting survival of precancerous and cancerous cells. Since HIP-1 expression correlates with prostate and colon cancer metastasis, it can serve as a prognostic marker for these cancers.
