Target Information

LC3B (Autophagy Marker Light Chain 3B, MAP1A/MAP1B LC3 B) is encoded by the gene MAP1LC3B in humans.
LC3B is associated with microtubule assembly and plays an important role in neurogenesis and autophagy—a process involving the bulk degradation of cytoplasmic components.

Three human LC3 isoforms undergo post-translational modifications during autophagy.
Macroautophagy, the major inducible pathway for cytoplasmic turnover, mediates degradation of cytoplasmic enzymes and organelles during nutrient starvation.
This process involves formation of double-membrane autophagosomes that fuse with lysosomes, releasing autophagic bodies for degradation.

LC3B mediates physical interactions between microtubules and cytoskeletal components and may play roles in cancer, aging, metabolic and neurodegenerative disorders, and cardiovascular/pulmonary diseases.
