Target Information
This gene encodes class I alcohol dehydrogenase, gamma subunit, a member of the alcohol dehydrogenase family. These enzymes metabolize a wide range of substrates, including ethanol, retinol, aliphatic alcohols, hydroxysteroids, and lipid peroxidation products. Class I alcohol dehydrogenase forms homo- and heterodimers (α, β, γ subunits) with high ethanol oxidation activity, playing a key role in ethanol catabolism. The genes encoding these subunits are organized as a cluster in the genome.
