Target Information
This gene encodes class II alcohol dehydrogenase 4 (pi subunit), a member of the alcohol dehydrogenase family. These enzymes metabolize ethanol, retinol, aliphatic alcohols, hydroxysteroids, and lipid peroxidation products. Class II ADH is a homodimer of two pi subunits with high activity toward long-chain and aromatic alcohols and lower sensitivity to pyrazole. The gene is located on chromosome 4 within the alcohol dehydrogenase gene cluster.
