Target Information
Plakophilin-3 is an Armadillo-like protein present in nuclei and desmosomes of epithelial cells. Its expression is largely restricted to epithelial cell types. It can be detected along cell borders in a punctate staining pattern typical for desmosomal proteins. Additionally, immunostaining shows bright nuclear speckles, indicating dual localization in desmosomal plaques and the cell nucleus. Thus, plakophilin-3 may be involved in signal transduction pathways between the plasma membrane and the nucleus. The human protein has a predicted molecular mass of approximately 87 kDa.
