Target Information

AMPK beta 1 is a regulatory subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a heterotrimer composed of an alpha catalytic subunit and non-catalytic beta and gamma subunits.
AMPK acts as an energy sensor that monitors cellular energy status. Upon activation by metabolic stress, AMPK phosphorylates and inactivates key enzymes such as acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR), which are involved in fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis.
The beta 1 subunit may positively regulate AMPK activity and influence enzyme localization through myristoylation and phosphorylation. It may also function as an adaptor molecule mediating AMPK complex assembly.
