Target Information
The MAP4 gene encodes a major non-neuronal microtubule-associated protein. It contains a domain similar to those of MAP2 and MAPT (tau) proteins. MAP4 promotes microtubule assembly and counteracts microtubule destabilization. It interacts with Cyclin B to target CDC2 kinase to microtubules, influencing phosphorylation, microtubule dynamics, and cell cycle progression. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
