Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a key component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Defects in spindle checkpoint function are associated with genetic instability and malignant transformation. Human cells contain two related checkpoint kinases, hBUBR1 and hBUB1, both evolved from the BUB1 gene, which monitor mitotic kinetochore-microtubule interactions. hBUBR1 is essential for normal mitotic progression, preventing premature entry into anaphase. BUBR1 has been detected in human cancers and identified as a binding partner of BCSG1 (Breast Cancer-Specific Gene 1), implicated in accelerating breast cancer progression by inactivating BUBR1 checkpoint control.
