Target Information
This gene encodes a subunit of the NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (Complex I), the first enzyme complex in the mitochondrial electron transport chain. It transfers electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The encoded subunit is one of seven in the iron-sulfur protein fraction. Mutations in this gene cause mitochondrial complex I deficiency, which can lead to diverse clinical disorders, including neonatal disease and adult-onset neurodegenerative conditions.
