Target Information

KLF10 is a nuclear protein belonging to the Sp1 C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family with three C2H2-type zinc fingers. It acts as a transcriptional repressor regulating cell growth and apoptosis. KLF10 binds to the consensus sequence 5'-GGTGTG-3' and is induced by TGF-beta, linking TGF-beta-mediated signaling to pancreatic epithelial cell growth regulation.
It is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues and may mediate up-regulation of TGFBI in VHL-deficient tumors. Overexpression of KLF10 is associated with renal clear cell carcinoma and other cancers.
KLF11, a related zinc finger transcription factor, binds SP1-like sequences in globin gene promoters, inhibiting cell growth and causing apoptosis. Defects in this gene are linked to maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 7 (MODY7).
