Target Information
Keratocan (KTN), also known as keratan sulfate proteoglycan keratocan, is a protein encoded by the KERA gene in humans, located on chromosome 12q22.
This protein is a keratan sulfate proteoglycan involved in corneal transparency.
Defects in the KERA gene are associated with autosomal recessive cornea plana 2 (CNA2).
Keratan sulfate proteoglycans (KSPGs) such as keratocan, lumican, and mimecan are members of the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family and are essential for corneal transparency.
