Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure composed of 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two α and two β rings). Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome processes class I MHC peptides. The PSMB7 gene encodes a 20S core β subunit of the proteasome, part of the proteasome B-type (T1B) family. Expression is downregulated by gamma interferon, and proteolytic processing is required for maturation. This subunit is replaced by the β10 subunit (2i) in the immunoproteasome.
