Target Information
CDK5 is a member of the Cyclin-Dependent Kinase family, most abundant in the mammalian brain. The active form of CDK5, also known as neuronal cdc2-like kinase, is a heterodimer of CDK5 and a 25 kDa protein derived proteolytically from a 35 kDa neuron-specific protein essential for kinase activity.
CDK5 is a crucial regulator of neuronal migration in the developing central nervous system and phosphorylates a diverse range of substrates, implicating it in cellular processes such as adhesion, motility, synaptic plasticity, and drug addiction.
