Target Information

The ENT1 (SLC29A1) gene belongs to the equilibrative nucleoside transporter family. It encodes a transmembrane glycoprotein localized to plasma and mitochondrial membranes, mediating nucleoside uptake from the extracellular medium. This transporter is sensitive to inhibition by nitrobenzylthioinosine and plays a crucial role in nucleotide synthesis for cells lacking de novo synthesis pathways, as well as in the uptake of cytotoxic nucleosides used in cancer and antiviral therapies. Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
