ENT1 (SLC29A1) 유전자는 equilibrative nucleoside transporter family에 속하며, 세포막 및 미토콘드리아막에 존재하는 당단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 세포 외부로부터 nucleoside를 흡수하며, nitrobenzylthioinosine에 의해 억제될 수 있습니다.
Nucleoside transporter는 de novo 합성 경로가 없는 세포에서 nucleotide 합성에 필수적이며, 암 및 바이러스 치료에 사용되는 cytotoxic nucleoside의 세포 내 흡수에도 관여합니다. 이 유전자는 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 여러 가지 alternative splicing 변형체를 가집니다.
