Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the neurotrophin family, which controls the survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons. It is closely related to nerve growth factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. NTF3 may play a role in maintaining the adult nervous system and influence neuronal development in embryos. NTF3-deficient mice show severe limb movement defects. The mature peptide is identical across mammals including human, pig, rat, and mouse.
