Target Information
Catalyzes the initial reaction in O-linked oligosaccharide biosynthesis, transferring an N-acetyl-D-galactosamine residue to serine or threonine residues on protein receptors. Although weaker than GALNT2, it can transfer up to seven GalNAc residues to the Muc5AC peptide, suggesting cooperative activity with other GALNT proteins. Prefers Muc1a as substrate. [UniProt]
