Target Information
Antizyme inhibitor (AZIN1) is a protein that positively regulates ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity and polyamine uptake. AZIN1 acts as an enzymatically inactive ODC homolog that counteracts the inhibitory effects of ODC antizymes (OAZ1, OAZ2, and OAZ3) by competing with ODC for antizyme binding. This process inhibits antizyme-dependent ODC degradation, releases ODC monomers from inactive complexes, and promotes formation of catalytically active ODC homodimers, restoring polyamine production.
