Target Information

Antizyme inhibitor (AZIN1) is a protein that positively regulates ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity and polyamine uptake. AZIN1 is an enzymatically inactive ODC homolog that counteracts the inhibitory effects of ODC antizymes (OAZ1, OAZ2, OAZ3) by competing for antizyme binding. This prevents antizyme-dependent ODC degradation, releases ODC monomers from inactive complexes, and restores catalytically active ODC homodimer formation, promoting polyamine production.
