Target Information
Caspases are a family of cysteine proteases that play key roles in programmed cell death (apoptosis). Each caspase precursor includes a prodomain and catalytic subunits. Activation occurs via cleavage adjacent to aspartate residues, forming an active a2b2 tetramer enzyme.
Caspase-3, also known as Yama, CPP32, or apopain, encodes a 32 kDa protein that cleaves substrates such as poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), DNA-PK, actin, GAS2, and procaspase-6. Activation involves cleavage at Asp-28/Ser-29 and Asp-175/Ser-176, generating 17 kDa and 12 kDa subunits.
