Target Information
MAPK7 (ERK5) serine/threonine kinase is a member of the MAP kinase family and is involved in various cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development. MAPK7 is activated by MAP2K5/MEK5 and mediates downstream signaling of multiple receptors. Upon extracellular stimulation, MAPK7 translocates to the nucleus to regulate gene expression by phosphorylating transcription factors. Gene deletion in mice leads to defective cardiovascular development and embryonic lethality. ERK5 plays a key role in endothelial function and vascular integrity. It is expressed in adult tissues such as heart, placenta, lung, kidney, and skeletal muscle, but not in liver.
