HLA-DR beta refers to the beta chain of the HLA-DR protein complex, a member of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II molecule family. The HLA-DR beta chain is encoded by the HLA-DRB gene and is primarily expressed on antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells, macrophages, and B cells.
These cells capture, process, and present antigens to T cells, enabling immune recognition. HLA-DR beta plays a vital role in presenting antigenic peptides to CD4⁺ T cells, activating adaptive immune responses. Structurally, it includes:
