Target Information
Early endosomal antigen 1 (EEA1) is a 162 kDa membrane-bound protein specific to the early endosome and essential for fusion between early endocytic vesicles. Early endosomes fuse with endocytic vesicles for redistribution of extracellular compounds. EEA1 contains zinc-finger-like domains in both amino and carboxyl-terminal regions, which are conserved in several non-nuclear proteins involved in intracellular trafficking. The carboxyl-terminal zinc-binding domain is critical for intracellular localization, and membrane association of EEA1 depends on phosphatidyl 3-kinase activity.
