The PPP2R5A gene encodes a regulatory subunit of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), a major Ser/Thr phosphatase involved in the negative regulation of cell growth and division.
PP2A consists of a catalytic subunit, a constant regulatory subunit, and various B regulatory subunits that modulate substrate selectivity and catalytic activity.
PPP2R5A encodes the alpha isoform of the B56 subfamily, and alternative transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
