Target Information

Using SAGE (Serial Analysis of Gene Expression) technology, St. Croix et al. identified 46 genes with expression elevated in tumor-associated endothelium. Among them, nine genes were specifically expressed in tumor endothelial cells (EC) but absent or barely detectable in normal ECs, designated as Tumor Endothelial Markers (TEMs, TEM1–9).
TEM7 (Tumor endothelial marker 7) transcripts are specifically expressed in the endothelium of colorectal, lung, pancreas, breast, and brain cancers. It is expressed in both primary and metastatic tumor endothelium. Other family members (TEM1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9) show similar expression in lung and brain tumors and liver metastasis.
These genes, differentially expressed in tumor endothelium and during angiogenesis, provide important resources for basic and clinical studies of human angiogenesis.
