Target Information
The muscarinic cholinergic receptors belong to a family of G protein-coupled receptors. Their functional diversity is defined by acetylcholine binding, which mediates cellular responses such as adenylate cyclase inhibition, phosphoinositide degeneration, and potassium channel regulation.
Muscarinic receptors influence various effects of acetylcholine in the central and peripheral nervous systems.
CHRM1 is involved in vagally-induced bronchoconstriction and gastric acid secretion. The gene encoding this receptor is localized to chromosome 11q13.
