Target Information
Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine- and threonine-specific protein kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and participate in various cellular signaling pathways. They also act as receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters. Each PKC isoform has a unique expression profile and functional role. PKC beta is implicated in processes such as B cell activation, apoptosis, endothelial cell proliferation, and intestinal sugar absorption. Studies in mice suggest roles in neuronal regulation and stress-related behavior. Alternative splicing produces distinct isoforms.
