Target Information
Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is synthesized as an inactive 31 kDa pro-form that accumulates in the cytosol and is cleaved by activated caspase-1 into an active 17 kDa form following inflammasome activation. IL-1β is secreted through a non-classical pathway and signals via IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors, shared with IL-1α. Its activity is regulated by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA), which competitively inhibits receptor binding. IL-1β plays a critical role in innate immune responses and inflammation, and elevated levels are linked to chronic inflammatory diseases.
