Target Information
SMG1 encodes a protein involved in nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) as part of the mRNA surveillance complex.
This protein functions as a kinase that phosphorylates the regulator of nonsense transcripts 1 (UPF1) protein.
Alternative spliced transcript variants have been described, though their full-length forms are not fully determined.
