Target Information

This gene encodes a protein that is a component of the NuRD (nucleosome remodeling deacetylase) complex in the nucleus of human cells. It exhibits broad expression and is strongly expressed in many tissues. It belongs to a small gene family involved in transcriptional regulation, possibly through chromatin remodeling. The protein is closely related to another family member associated with metastatic potential in certain carcinomas. Both share common domains including DNA-binding, dimerization, and methylation-related domains. One known target of this gene product is p53, where deacetylation correlates with loss of growth inhibition in transformed cells, linking this family to metastasis.
