Target Information
SOX1, also known as SRY (sex determining region Y)-box 1, is a transcription factor belonging to the SRY-related HMG box family of transcription factors with a HMG box DNA-binding domain.
SOX1 promotes neuronal cell fate determination and differentiation through multiple pathways.
It modulates LINE retroposons promoter activity and participates in central nervous system development, including neural and lens formation.
SOX1 binds directly to the HES1 promoter to suppress HES1 transcription, attenuating Notch signaling, and interacts with beta-catenin to suppress beta-catenin-mediated TCF/LEF signaling, potentially attenuating WNT pathway activity.
Expression of SOX1 is predominantly observed in embryonic tissues and moderately in the brain.
