Target Information
Zinc, an essential element required for cell proliferation and differentiation, plays a role in numerous cellular functions, including acting as a cofactor for enzymes and transcription factors and serving as a neuroregulator.
The zinc transporter (ZnT) family regulates intracellular zinc supply and is characterized by six membrane-spanning domains, a histidine-rich intracellular loop, and a C-terminal tail.
ZnT-1, a ubiquitous ~60 kDa protein, localizes to the plasma membrane and facilitates zinc export from cells.
