Target Information
POU5F1, also known as Oct-4, is a maternally expressed octamer-binding transcription factor essential for early embryonic development. Its role in maintaining pluripotency has made it a key factor in stem cell and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell research. Expression of POU5F1, along with Sox2, Klf4, Lin28, and c-Myc, enables reprogramming of somatic cells into iPS cells. Recent advancements have shown that non-viral expression plasmids can be used to generate iPS cells, improving safety for regenerative medicine applications.
