Target Information
TCF12 (Transcription Factor 12), also known as HTF4, is a member of the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) E-protein family that recognizes the consensus binding site (E-box) CANNTG.
It is expressed in various tissues including skeletal muscle, thymus, B- and T-cells, and plays a role in regulating lineage-specific gene expression through heterodimer formation with other bHLH E-proteins.
Together with E2A, TCF12 is required to block thymocyte proliferation prior to pre-TCR expression and is essential for proper T cell differentiation.
Recent studies indicate TCF12 is also critical for invariant natural killer T cell development.
