Background
Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily M member 7 (OR2M7) is a human olfactory receptor that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response leading to the perception of smell. These receptors belong to the large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure. They are responsible for odorant recognition and G protein-mediated signal transduction. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome, and its nomenclature is independent across species.
