Background
This gene belongs to the cadherin superfamily, encoding calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion glycoproteins. Cadherins have five extracellular cadherin domains, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic domain. Expression of this cadherin is upregulated in myotube-forming cells and is believed to play a key role in morphogenetic control and myogenesis, potentially triggering terminal muscle cell differentiation.
