Background
Heterogeneous nuclear RNAs (hnRNAs), including mRNA precursors and mature mRNAs, associate with specific proteins to form heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) complexes. hnRNP L is one of the proteins stably associated with these complexes and plays a key role in mRNA formation, packaging, processing, and function. It is primarily localized in the nucleoplasm but also found in the cytoplasm. hnRNP proteins shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm, suggesting potential cytoplasmic functions. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
