Target Information
Cytokine that binds to and signals through the IL1RL2/IL-36R receptor, activating NF-kappa-B and MAPK signaling pathways in target cells. It is part of the IL-36 signaling system, which functions in epithelial barriers and contributes to local inflammatory responses. Similar to the IL-1 system, it shares the coreceptor IL1RAP. IL1F9 plays a role in skin inflammatory responses by acting on keratinocytes, dendritic cells, and indirectly on T-cells, promoting tissue infiltration, cell maturation, and proliferation. In cultured keratinocytes, it induces expression of chemokines such as CCL3, CCL4, CCL5, CCL2, CCL17, CCL22, CXCL8, CCL20, and CXCL1, and stimulates its own expression along with proinflammatory markers including TNF-alpha, S100A7/psoriasin, and inducible NOS. It may also contribute to neutrophilic airway inflammation and innate immune responses to fungal pathogens like Aspergillus fumigatus.
