SHBG (Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin)은 간에서 분비되는 스테로이드 결합 단백질로, 혈중에서 안드로겐 및 에스트로겐을 운반하며 각각의 스테로이드 분자를 동일하거나 유사한 단량체로 이루어진 이합체 형태로 결합합니다. 낮은 SHBG 혈장 농도는 비만, 복부 지방, 대사 증후군과 연관되어 있으며 제2형 당뇨병의 발병을 예측할 수 있습니다. 또한 이 유전자의 다형성은 다낭성 난소 증후군(PCOS) 및 제2형 당뇨병과 관련이 있습니다.
