Target Information
This gene belongs to the ecto-nucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase (ENPP) family. The encoded protein is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein composed of two identical disulfide-bonded subunits. It has broad substrate specificity, cleaving phosphodiester and pyrophosphate bonds of nucleotides and nucleotide sugars. The protein hydrolyzes nucleoside 5′-triphosphates to monophosphates and diadenosine polyphosphates. Mutations in this gene are linked to idiopathic infantile arterial calcification, ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL), and insulin resistance.
