Target Information
Glutamate receptors are the principal excitatory neurotransmitter receptors in the brain. Two classes exist: ionotropic and metabotropic receptors.
- Ionotropic receptors are oligomeric complexes forming ligand-gated calcium channels (e.g., GluR17, NMDA13, KAI2).
- Metabotropic receptors are G-protein coupled receptors that activate phospholipases or adenylyl cyclase, depending on the neuron type.
