RNF2 (E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase RING2)는 히스톤 H2A의 Lys-119 잔기의 모노유비퀴틴화를 매개하는 리가아제로, 히스톤 코드 및 유전자 발현 조절에 중심적인 역할을 합니다. 이 효소의 활성은 BMI1/PCGF4에 의해 강화되며, H2AK119Ub는 전사 억제의 표지로 작용합니다. 또한 RNF2는 Polycomb group (PcG) 단백질 복합체인 PRC1-like complex의 필수 구성 요소로, 발달 과정에서 Hox 유전자를 포함한 여러 유전자의 전사 억제 상태를 유지하는 데 필요합니다.
