Target Information

F4/80 antigen is a 160 kDa cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the EGF TM7 family. It shares 68% overall amino acid identity with human EMR1 (EGF module-containing mucin-like hormone receptor 1).
Expression of F4/80 varies during macrophage maturation and activation. It is found in mature tissue macrophages such as Kupffer cells, Langerhans cells, microglia, and macrophages in the gut lamina propria, peritoneal cavity, lung, thymus, bone marrow stroma, and spleen red pulp.
F4/80 is also expressed on some dendritic cells but is absent from macrophages in T cell areas of the spleen and lymph nodes.
Although its ligands and functions are not fully determined, studies suggest a role in the generation of efferent CD8⁺ regulatory T cells.
