Target Information

EPHB1 is a receptor tyrosine kinase belonging to the ephrin receptor family. Members of the Eph family play key roles in biological processes such as:

  • Nervous system development
  • Angiogenesis
  • Neural synapse formation and maturation

EphB1 and related family members are type I membrane-spanning proteins containing immunoglobulin, fibronectin type III, and cysteine-rich subdomains in the ectodomain, and a cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase domain upstream of a carboxy-terminal sterile alpha motif (SAM) domain. EphB family proteins bind ephrins of the B class, which are transmembrane ligands capable of bidirectional signaling.

EphB1 is primarily expressed in developing neural structures and vascular epithelium of the kidney and other tissues. Upon binding ephrin B1, EphB1 regulates cell attachment and assembly. These proteins are implicated in neuronal and vascular cell targeting.
