Product Specific Information
This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide to avoid contamination (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%).
Recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies are produced using in vitro expression systems developed by cloning specific antibody DNA sequences from immunoreactive rabbits. Individual clones are screened to select the best candidates for production.
Advantages of recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies:
- Better specificity and sensitivity
- Lot-to-lot consistency
- Animal origin-free formulations
- Broader immunoreactivity to diverse targets due to larger rabbit immune repertoire
This antibody has specificity for Human BACE1/ASP2.
Target Information
BACE1 (beta-secretase) is a key enzyme involved in the production of amyloid beta-peptides (Abeta) found in extracellular amyloid plaques of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Early onset familial AD can be attributed to a "Swedish" mutation in the amyloid precursor protein (APP), which enhances cleavage by BACE1.
Therapeutic approaches have focused on inhibition of BACE1 and other APP-cleaving enzymes such as gamma-secretase. APP is first cleaved by beta-secretase, producing a soluble derivative and a membrane-anchored 99-amino acid fragment (C99). The C99 fragment serves as substrate for gamma-secretase to generate the 4 kDa amyloid-beta peptide, which accumulates in the brains of AD patients.
BACE1/Asp2 is a transmembrane aspartic protease that colocalizes with APP.
