Target Information
MRAP2 is a modulator of melanocortin receptor 4 (MC4R), which is involved in energy homeostasis. It plays a central role in regulating energy balance and body weight by increasing ligand sensitivity of MC4R and MC4R-mediated cAMP generation. MRAP2 may act as a negative regulator of MC2R by competing with MRAP for binding to MC2R and reducing ACTH binding. It may also regulate other melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, MC5R), though further in vivo evidence is required.
