Product Specific Information

This antibody is specific for endogenous levels of the ~180 kDa NR2B subunit of the NMDA receptor. Immunolabeling is blocked by preadsorption of the antibody with the fusion protein used for immunization. No cross-reactivity is observed with NR2A or NR2C subunits.

Target Information

NMDAR2B is a member of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) class of ionotropic glutamate receptors. NMDA receptors are involved in long-term potentiation, a process underlying synaptic plasticity, memory, and learning. NMDARs play roles in neuronal development and are implicated in disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and ischemic neuronal cell death. Overexpression of NR2B correlates with enhanced learning and memory, while reduced NR2B expression is observed in aged, memory-impaired animals. Phosphorylation at Tyr1472 on NR2B may increase NMDAR expression at synapses. NMDAR2B forms a heterotrimer with subunits NR1, NR2, and NR3. Dysfunctions in NMDAR2B are associated with epileptic encephalopathy and autosomal dominant mental retardation.
