Target Information

Transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, is a plasma protein that functions as a transporter of thyroxine and retinal-binding protein. It is primarily synthesized in the liver and secreted into the plasma. TTR constitutes about 25% of CSF protein, suggesting selective transport across the blood-CSF barrier or local synthesis within the CNS. It is found in neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and microangiopathic lesions of senile cerebral amyloid. Over 40 mutations in the TTR gene have been associated with amyloid deposition.
