Target Information

Granzyme B is a member of the granzyme serine protease family and is found in the granules of cytotoxic T cells and NK cells. It is also known as CGL1 (cathepsin G-like-1) and CTLA-1 (cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated serine esterase 1). Granzyme B plays a crucial role in the induction of apoptosis in target cells through interaction with cytotoxic T cells, involving the mannose 6-phosphate receptor as a death receptor. It cleaves caspase-3 to initiate the caspase cascade leading to DNA fragmentation and apoptosis, and can also trigger mitochondrial apoptosis by cleaving the Bid protein. Granzymes are neutral serine proteases stored in specialized lytic granules of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and natural killer (NK) cells. Several granzymes (A to G) have been identified in mouse CTLs and NK cells, with fewer cloned and identified in humans.
